Austin Cinemaker Coop, Vol. 1
Texas Super 8 Massacre
Texas Super 8 Massacre was the first, juried compilation tape consisting of the Best of 1997 films. These films were selected from a large number of entries we received throughout the year. Cinemaker was based on the Super 8 film format and its specialty was in-camera edited silent films shot on one roll of film and screened in its original format. Films were exhibited with separate, original soundtracks - near in-sync.
We also introduced a standard for submitting films in order to avoid technical problems at projections but also to limit the timeframe and make filmmaking more planned.
A 4x4 film is:
- shot on Super 8 film
- edited in-camera (max 4 min. projection time, max 4 splices)
- accompanied by original soundtrack
- started with a 5 second countdown (shot on film or written onto the film leader)
