Austin Cinemaker Coop, Vol. 3
Fast, Cheap Prophesies
Fast Cheap Prophesies was the third, juried compilation tape consisting of the Best of 1998 and 1999 films. These films were selected from a large number of entries we received throughout these two years. Cinemaker was based on the Super 8 film format and its specialty was in-camera edited silent films shot on one roll of film and screened on its original format. Films were exhibited with separate, original soundtracks - near in-sync.
We also introduced a standard for submitting films in order to avoid technical problems at projections but also to limit the timeframe and make filmmaking more planned.
A 4x4 film is:
- shot on Super 8 film (50 feet silent film)
- edited in-camera (max 4 min. projection time, max 4 splices)
- accompanied by original soundtrack
- started with a 5 second countdown (shot on film or written onto the film leader)
